Maintaining a normal Blood Pressure (BP) requires some effort on your part, so we took the time to list a few fundamental steps you can take to keep your BP at a healthy level.

  • Healthy dietCut down on the amount of salt in your food and eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. The sodium in salt raises your blood pressure, so the more salt you consume, the higher your blood pressure. Aim to eat less than 6 grams of salt daily, which is about one teaspoonful. Eating a low-fat diet that includes lots of fiber, such as wholegrain rice, bread, and pasta, and plenty of fruit and vegetables also helps lower blood pressure.

Feeling down or depressed from time to time is normal, but if these feelings last beyond two weeks or start to affect everyday life, this can be a sign of depression. Depression can develop slowly. Someone who is depressed does not always realize or acknowledge that they’re not feeling or behaving as they usually do.

Sometimes a partner, family member, or carer is first to realize that help is needed. They may encourage their friend or relative to see a Doctor or find some other source of support.

Sleep is a fundamental part of our daily lives. While we emphasis the need for a healthy diet and regular exercise, adequate sleep is equally important.

The average daily duration of sleep recommended for adults is about 7 to 9 hours, with children and adolescents needing more sleep. Unfortunately, in metropolitan cities, the amount of time available for sleep is usually limited.

Body odour, also known as bromhidrosis, occurs when bacteria on the skin breakdown sweat into acids, which have a bad odour.  While sweat is generally odourless, some sweat glands, known as apocrine glands, produce substances (proteins, lipids, steroids), which are broken down by bacteria on the skin to produce odour. These sweat glands are found mostly around the armpit, nipples, genitals and anal region.

It is commonplace to assume that a particular “healthy” diet is healthy for everyone. However, there are ongoing researches that could prove this wrong.

A number of factors are being considered in determining what diet is best for a given individual. These factors include age, gender, physical activity, sleep patterns, genetics and microorganisms (unique to each individual), among others.
